I went to www.stpgov.org, and clicked on leadership, and on the left are various agencies within the Parish. At the very bottom is listed "school  board". I clicked on that link and saw the story about the re-districting and then clicked on the map. I don't understand why Greenleaves and Lonesome are going to the new school. It is like the Board needed 20 more students and then just did this "circle" and said - OK you move. The students in Abita Springs -- they are further up 59 and could easily take the back road to 1088. I think the school board has missed the boat on this plan. There is a reason why people move where they do and why builders build where they do - for proximity to schools their children will be attending. Look at any real estate website and one of the most important bits of informatin besides bedrooms and baths are "schools".

And yes, we all need to voice our displeasure not only about this but about all the taxing entities in St. Tammany. We are the most taxed parish in the state. Prices of everything are going up; salaries are not and yet our taxes are going WAY up - two of my acquaintances at work - one is going up 50% and one 100%!!!!!! These agencies who think they can just say - put it on the ballot and the people will say YES have to be told -- start finding ways to cut corners, save money. Reuse paper, hold off the repainting until next year until the economy can recover, delay the order of the new fire truck for a year. Don't chance the uniforms this year, etc.............THINK! People have got to go to the polls and VOTE and let their feelings be known -- the ballot on Saturday has 4 tax proposals; the ballot in November has more than I care to think about. BUT every taxing entity is having a meeting to discuss rolling their millage FORWARD (increase) or BACKWARD (decrease) - but even then they can roll it forward
without asking! CALL THE ASSESSORS OFFICE AND GET YOUR TAX BILL. CALL THE ASSESSORS OFFICE AND GET SCHEDULE OF MEETINGS. St. Tammany does not have to have the very very best of everything.

Tell the School Board they don't need more taxes - they need to do with what they have -- just like we are trying to do.

Please email Doug Mouton at the email below. Lonesome road has been calling demanding re drawing the maps. Email this to every one in your subdivision. All we want are equal schools, and with all the taxes we pay to the school board we deserve that.
