MTPOA 2008 Phases 1 and 2 “Town Hall” Meeting

Residents of Phases 1 and 2 gathered at the home of Tom and Mary Meehan on Thursday evening, February 28th for an informal get together to socialize and talk about ways to improve the quality of life that we enjoy in Marigny Trace.  It was really nice to meet some new people, share ideas and reaffirm that we are all on the same page when it comes to keeping our investments in our properties as strong as possible.  The wonderful desserts and beverages served up by Miriam Fleischer and Mary Meehan were most appreciated.

Phases 1 and 2 take in Labarre, Kingfisher, Merganser and Bunting, along with the south end of Vireo.  These are the oldest areas of the subdivision.

Ideas that we discussed and wish to put forth to the both the outgoing and incoming boards include:

  • Ways to control the speeding and running of stop signs in our Phases.
  • The parking of commercial vehicles on the streets.
  • Continuing the momentum of repairing the cul-de-sacs and entrances to the subdivision.
  • The parking of vehicles on the bridges over the waterways.
  • Signage at the entrances stating that the subdivision is subject to covenants and by-laws so that potential buyers know from the beginning what the expectations are prior to making a buying decision.
  • The feasibility of changing electrical power vendors.
  • Explore the option of having a single trash collection service to get better pricing as well as limit the number of days that large vehicles are in the neighborhood.
  • The repair of cracking and crumbling streets
  • Outsourcing management of the financial part of the subdivision and possibly the entire management
  • Regarding those that cannot pay their entire dues in one lump sum, perhaps a bank draft system can be established.
  • Using pooper scoopers when walking our dogs.
  • Improvement of ditch drainage

Steve Peak provided a little update on the green space work and thanked all of those who have expressed an interest in helping out.  We are participating in the “Free-Trees” program that the parish is coordinating, opting to take several Shumard Oaks.   Several residents have volunteered to donate plants.

Thanks to all who made some time in their busy schedules to spend a few hours with some of their neighbors.  It was a nice evening indeed.
